From Cindy Kane’s installation art project, The Helmet Project, which is a collection of the protective helmets of war correspondents, all inscribed with handwritten notes by the journalists. This is Anthony Shadid’s. Others in the collection include Lynsey Addario’s, Ellen Knickmeyer’s, Chris Hedges’ and David Finkel’s, among many others.
From her description of the work:
“The helmets have been used in battles, and the journalists’ notes record the despair of people trapped by war, poverty, and political oppression. Ultimately, the helmets encircle the visitor in the journalists’ quests for truth, honoring their ability to bring us stories from embattled places on the earth. “
